Vocabulary test,
Students will be given 10 words from the grade level and and one higher grade.
It is Multiple choice written test.
Students who answers the most words correctly will be recognized specially with a certificate. It will be done at the beginning of the Spelling Bee.
The vocabulary test participation is optional and in no way will effect the oral spelling bee.
There is no separate registration for vocabulary test.
After the vocabulary round we will start the oral spelling bee.

Listed below is process and rules of spelling bee:
Please have the participants learn as many words as they can from the Word list beyond their grade level.
For Grades Kindergarten through 2nd Grade all the words (to be spelled at the Class/School Spelling Bee) will be from the word list Grade 1 through 8.
For Grades 3 through 5, there might be few words randomly selected from the entries in Webster’s Third New International Dictionary and its addenda section, copyright 2002, Merriam-Webster, the official dictionary of the Scripps National Spelling Bee (this is in case we exhaust the word list provided).
General Rules for All grade Levels;
Round 1: All the words in this round will be starting from the word list specified for the said grade level (Except for kindergartners, where it starts from First grade).
Example: Third Grade spelling bee will start with Round 1 words, from third grade word list .
Round 2: Words in this level will be from the next higher grade
The process continues until there are two winners from each grade.
The Finalists for 3rd and 4th and 5th grades will compete and Winner will represent WWES at county Spelling bee which is open to 3rd - 8th grade students.
Spelling Bee Rules:
1. A Word Announcer will pronounce each word.
2. Each speller will be encouraged to pronounce the word given by the Word Announcer,
spell the word and then pronounce the word again. The contestant may be reminded by
the Judge to complete his/her turn by saying the word for the second time. A contestant
will not be disqualified for failing to pronounce the word before or after he/she has
spelled it. A turn shall be limited to twenty (20) seconds.
3. A speller may not change the spelling of the word after she/he pronounces it. Having started to spell a word, a speller may stop and start over, but there can be no change of letters or in the sequence of letters during the respelling or they shall be eliminated.
4. A speller may ask for a re-pronouncing of the word. A speller may also request for a
definition of that word and/or for the Word Announcer to use that word in a sentence so
that the word has been made reasonably clear to the speller. The Word Announcer shall
grant the request until the Judge(s) agrees that the word has been made reasonably clear
to the contestant. A Judge(s) may disqualify a speller who ignores a request to start
spelling and twenty seconds have elapsed.
5. If the Judge(s) feels that a speller misunderstood a word due to difficulties with the
sound system or acoustics in the room, they will ask the Word Announcer to pronounce it
again.
6. The Spelling Bee is based on single elimination. Upon missing the spelling of a word,
the speller is immediately eliminated from the competition. The Word Announcer should
give the correct spelling of the word. The next word on the list is given to the next
speller.
7. When the spellers are reduced to two participants class spelling bee will be concluded. These two children will be allowed to move onto the Final Spelling Bee (except for Kindergartners, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade, they have only one class Spelling Bee).
8. During the entire grade Spelling Bee (Final
If one of the last two spellers misspells a word, and the other after correctly spelling that word misspells the new word given to her/him, then the misspelled word will be given to the other speller. If this speller correctly spells the misspelled word, and correctly spells the next word given to him/her by the Word Announcer, then that speller shall be declared the winner.
If both spellers misspell the same word, both shall continue. The speller who first misspelled the word will be given a new word to spell and the Spelling Bee will continue as stated until a winner is determined.
8. Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged, shall serve as the final authority for the spelling of words and defined terms. The speller shall not be disqualified for failing to note that a word is capitalized.
9. The Judge(s) is in complete control of the Spelling Bee. The Judge’s decision shall be final on all questions.
