There is one question which we answer to at least 10-12 parents every year for the past 6 years is
What words do we study for the Spelling bee?
The Answer is:  For the school spelling bee(class and final bees'), all the words will be from the word list provided when you register to participate in spelling bee.
The list has almost 450 words.

The Next question would be
 My kid is in ---------- grade, For class spelling bee, he/she just has to study ---------grade words,Right?
Answer: Simple answer is "not exactly"

We have 25 words for each grade level for class room spelling bee,
this is how it works:
Round 1:
All the kids will spell the words in the list from the specific grade level(e.g; first grade starts round 1 with Grade 1 words)
Round 2:
Students who spelled the words correctly in the round 1 will proceed to round 2 of the competition.
Round 2 will start with next grade level words(e.g; First graders in round 2 will spell the second grade words)
Round 3:Depending on the number of students and number of words left in the grade level, the judges will decide whether to proceed to next grade level words or stay in the same grade level.


From past six years of experience I can say, first graders usually spell up to 4th and 5th grade level words. Second Graders go up to 5th and 6th grade level.

Attention All Spellers, the 2nd Annual Spelling Bee will be held at Wilson Wims ES in January 2016.

Here are the dates and sign-up links to register your child and volunteer at the events.

Jan 11, 2016: 3rd Grade - Mon
Jan 12, 2016: 4th Grade - Tue
Jan 13, 2016: 5th Grade - Wed
Jan 14, 2016: 1st Grade - Thurs
Jan 19, 2016: 2nd Grade -Tues
Jan 20, 2016: Final Bee - Wed (Only Winners from the Grade 3, 4 and 5 Class Bees will participate)
Jan 21, 2016: Kindergarten Bee - Thurs

Sign Ups Due by October 30th with words sent by November 2.  Only 25 students per grade slot with a waiting list.  If interested but not sure, please sign up for the waiting list and words will still be sent out to you.
